Introduced to the Portland area in the late 1800's this variety is widely regarded as "simply the best." Spanish Roja wraps spicy and sweet in one package. Recognized by Slow Food USA Ark of Taste variety worthy of preservation. While we don't know this variety's exact linage it likely originated in the Turkish Mountains near the Black Sea. Purplish-red skins. Intense, pungent flavor with medium heat. Great roaster. Averages 6-8 cloves per bulb .

Similar to Russian Red, introduced by Doukhobor immigrants fleeing religious persecution in Russia in the late 1800's. This garlic starts off hot and ends with a lingering sweetness. Raw, it packs a punch, but the flavor is outstanding. It's also good cooked or baked, and holds its flavor. Good sized bulbs/cloves that are easy to peel. 8-10 cloves.

A strong garlic with a hot bite when raw that produces large dark purple skinned cloves. We really love the flavor of this one; the heat mellows a bit with cooking but still provides a great garlic presence and a little zing. Good flavor with upfront "bite" of heat that quickly disappears. It is a winter hardy variety suited well for cold climates. Good storage variety with easy to peel bulbs/cloves.

Brought to North America by the Doukhobors fleeing religious persecution in the late 1800's. Russian Red is a fiery garlic, absolutely meant for true garlic lovers. It has a a rich, musky, garlicky flavor and is extremely hot when eaten raw.

One of the last varieties out of field, this late maturing variety has great Rocambole flavors with moderate garlic heat. Beautiful reddish,, dark brown clove wrappers. Good storage. If you are looking to spread out your harvest dates this is an excellent choice to achieve that.
